Report from 2023 RS Tera World Championships Lake Iseo Italy

Associazione Nautica Sebina hosted the 2023 RS Tera World Championships July 27th through August 4th on Lake Iseo in Sulzano Italy. This was an incredibly memorable event for the 3 sailors from the US who traveled to compete.

Light wind conditions really gave the pro and sport fleets a big challenge! 65 boats from 7 countries competed over the 5 days of racing at a completely spectacular venue in the Lombardy Region of Northern Italy.

A practice day was held on Saturday to get the participants familiar with the venue. On day 1 there was very little to no wind and so the kids had a great time making new friends and playing in the lake.

Very light winds on Days 2 and 3 made for very tactical racing and on Days 4 and 5, the Race Committee called for very early morning (6am and 8am) starts to try to catch some wind.

International Regattas are not only about racing. Competitors made the most of their free time making friends with pontoon water fights, diving competitions and pasta parties during evening dinners.

The 3 Sailors representing the US joined competitors from Great Britain, Czech Republic, Italy, Sweden, Lithuania and also a Ukrainian team who was supported by Club MRSV Bavaria.

There was full slate of social activities during the week including a visit to the Ca’Del Bosco vineyard cellars, a trip to the Torbiere del Sebino nature reserve, a private boat ride to Monte Isola and a hike to the San Fermo Church.
