NOTICE OF RACE & SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
1. ELIGIBILITY AND RULES:
1.1. All sailors must participate on a Middle School sailing team.
1.2. Sailors participating in the NWISA racing circuit are not eligible to compete in this
regatta
1.3. All sailors must have completed a capsize drill in cold water.
1.4. Sailors must wear a wetsuit, USCG Level III lifejacket and suitable footwear whenever
on the dock or boats at all times.
1.5. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
2. ENTRY:
2.1. To register coaches should email program@anacorteswaterfront.org with the number of
sailors their team will be bringing. Please also indicate the quantity of boats your team
plans to bring and the sail numbers associated.
2.2. Registration closes September 15th.
2.3. Each competitor must have a signed waiver on file. Please complete a waiver for each

2.4. There is a $5 entrance fee for this regatta. Please make one payment per team.
3. BOATS AND FORMAT:
3.1. This regatta will be sailed in RS Tera single handed sailing dinghies.
3.2. Teams should plan to bring a ratio of approximately 2 sailors per boat to the regatta.
3.3. Anacortes will provide 8 RS Teras for the regatta.
3.4. Sail numbers will be used to identify boats for scoring.
3.5. Each Team will be assigned a sail number for the regatta and will sail that boat in all
races unless a boat swap is required due to a breakdown.
3.6. Each boat will have two - three sailors that will make up the Team.
3.7. Each team member will compete in two races before returning to the dock to rotate.
3.8. Each sailors' scores will be added together to make a team score.
3.9. The top three teams with the lowest scores for the regatta will receive recognition at the
awards ceremony.
3.10.Races will be scored and published to a google spreadsheet Middle School Regatta
3.11. The start of the race will be indicated by a 3 min horn countdown
■ 3 min - 3 long horns
■ 2 min - 2 long horns
■ 1 min 30 sec - 1 long horn 3 short horns
■ 1 min - 1 long horn
■ 30 sec - 3 short horns
■ 20 sec - 2 short horns
■ 10 sec - 1 short horn
■ Final countdown horns at 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
■ GO- Long Horn
3.12.Boats called over early must go back across the start line to restart to be scored
3.13.Boats that do not sail the proper course will be scored as a last place finish
3.14. Five horns after the start - indicates general recall (Restart)
3.15.The course will be: Start, Windward Mark, Leeward Mark, Finish
3.16.The start line is open (not restricted)
4. SCHEDULE: Any changes to the schedule will be announced at the competitors meeting.
Sailors must be able to be present for the full day to compete.

10:00 AM Report time. Sailors dressed. Rig boats on lawn
10:30 AM Competitors meeting followed by boat launching
11:00 AM First race
2:00 PM No races to begin after this time, put away boats, awards
3:00 PM Sailors dismissed
5. RACING & SPECTATING AREA
5.1. All races will be sailed on waters directly off the Seafarers Park breakwater.
5.2. Boat rotations will occur from the floating dock inside Seafarers Park.
5.3. Families can watch racing from the Seafarers Park lawn, beach or pier.
5.4. Sailors and Coaches only on the floating rotation dock.
5.5. Public bathrooms and porta potties are located on the West side of the Seafarers Park
Building.
6. TRANSPORTATION & FOOD:
6.1. Teams are responsible for their own transportation. The address of the regatta site is:

6.2. Sailors should bring their own food, water and snacks to the regatta. Food is not
provided.
7. COACHING:
7.1. Coaches should facilitate boat rotations on the Seafarers floating dock.
7.2. Coaches may go afloat and coach sailors that need assistance to finish the race.
7.3. Race committee and mark boats will communicate on VHF Channel 72.
